Pastoral Care and Wellbeing
At Hertford Prep, we believe that a child’s happiness is the foundation of their success. As a small, nurturing school, every member of staff plays an active role in supporting the well-being of our pupils. Our strong sense of community means that staff know each child as an individual, taking time to listen, support and respond to their needs with genuine care and warmth.
We take a proactive approach to well-being, ensuring that any concerns - no matter how small - are quickly addressed. Children are encouraged to talk about how they’re feeling, and individual or small group sessions are offered when extra support is needed.

PSHE Curriculum
Our PSHE curriculum provides the flexibility to explore a wide range of social and emotional topics. Teachers are responsive to the everyday challenges children face and create safe, open spaces for discussion, helping pupils build confidence, empathy and resilience.

Our Grounds
Physical and mental well-being go hand in hand at Hertford Prep. Set within beautiful countryside, our school grounds inspire outdoor learning and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Forest School, outdoor lessons, and mindfulness activities are woven into the school day, helping children feel grounded, calm and connected to nature.
In the warmer months, pupils enjoy our outdoor swimming pool, and all year round, they take part in a broad range of physical activities including football, hockey, cricket, swimming, netball, crossfit and dance. Movement and fitness are celebrated across the school, reinforcing the importance of balance, well-being and fun in everyday life.

Our Culture
At Hertford Prep, pastoral care is not a department - it’s a culture. It runs through everything we do, ensuring that every child feels seen, valued and supported throughout their journey with us.
