Welcoming a New Chapter at Hertford Prep School
For many families, St Joseph’s In The Park is a name that holds fond memories. It’s where their child made their first best friend, performed in their first school play, or discovered a love of learning that’s still going strong. Founded in 1897, the school has been part of Hertfordshire’s story for over a century, from its early years in Hertford to its home at the historic Hertingfordbury Park estate. With such deep roots, we know that any change – especially to something as meaningful as a name – might prompt questions.
The truth is, while our name is changing, the heart of our school remains the same. Our children still laugh and play under the same trees, learn in the same nurturing classrooms, and will be supported by the same dedicated staff. But just as our pupils grow, evolve, and step into new versions of themselves, so too has our school.
This isn’t just a rebrand, it’s a reflection of who we are now. As St Joseph’s In The Park, we built a strong reputation as a warm, values-led school with high academic standards. But over time, our offering has grown and adapted. We now provide a broader, more modern education that reflects the needs of today’s families.
We are still a proudly independent prep school in Hertfordshire, welcoming boys and girls aged 3 to 11. But we’re also a school that recognises no two children are alike. A school that offers tailored support, celebrates curiosity, and makes space for difference.
We will be officially recognised as Hertford Prep from 3rd November 2025.
